About this lesson

This week we’re reading Leaf Man by Lois Ehlert. In this magical story, leaves are blown by the wind and turn into people, animals, and amazing shapes. Then, make a Leaf Man (or Leaf Creature!) of your very own.

This week’s Home Learning video invites you to step into the magical, windy world of Leaf Man by Lois Ehlert. In this beautifully illustrated picture book, leaves are no longer just leaves – they become people, animals, and even whole landscapes as they drift and dance across the page. The story asks us to look closely at nature, to imagine what we can see, and to create our own stories from the shapes around us.

As you watch, think about where your own Leaf Man might travel, and what adventures he might find on the wind. Afterwards, you’ll have a chance to gather leaves and create your very own artwork, inspired by the book. Where will your leaf person go?

You will need:

  • Leaves
  • A collection of other autumn objects e.g. seeds, twigs, berries, nuts.
